Combat 'Summer Heat' with Chrysanthemum Tea
What is ‘Summer Heat’?
Summer Heat is a pathology in Chinese medicine. It is considered a yang pathology and is associated with such symptoms as fever, excessive sweating, irritability, thirst with preference for cold drinks, shortness of breath, lassitude, general weakness, scanty, and yellowish urine.
Anytime there is a change of season, there is an alteration of immune function so boosting the immune system should always be top of mind. Therefore, herbal formulas that strengthen the essence and nourish the body are very important to have on hand as summer rushes in.
Ju Hua / Chrysanthemum
We are all about teas at Mighty River Wellness. During the summer season, it is great to accommodate Chrysanthemum tea into your tea game. It’s known to have a cooling and calming effect. And it’s a good source of vitamin A and C as well as being known to lower serum cholesterol.
We usually suggest steeping the whole organic flower in a mason jar in the fridge overnight. Just strain out the flowers and drink the tea throughout the day. In Chinese medicine, this flower is a go-to to clear heat conditions in the body, so you can use this tea if you experience any of the following conditions:
stressed out or experiencing anxiety
headaches or migraines
want to aid digestion after a heavy meal
breaking out with acne or a rash
cold sores or canker sores, or if you feel one coming on (ick, i know)
high blood pressure and/or cholesterol
trying to lose weight or boost your metabolism
