4 Ways To Treat Menstrual Pain Using Acupressure

PSA: Your periods should not be painful or stressful. It is not in your head. There is something you can do about it.

Acupressure is essentially a method of sending a signal to the body (by needle or other means) to “turn on” its own self-healing or regulatory mechanisms. Normally, Qi (vital energy) circulates through natural pathways in the body called meridians. Blockage of this flow or an imbalance in Yin and Yang can cause illness and pain. Acupressure helps to correct functional imbalances and restore the flow thus returning the body to a more natural state of well-being.

We want to show you a new way of approaching painful periods. There are no immediate fixes, but understanding and treating the underlying factors causing painful periods can save you years of suffering, frustration, and discomfort

Let’s run through a few of our favorite points that you can stimulate at home yourself to treat those painful period symptoms.

Two women in a bathroom, one women handing the other a feminine napkin.

Xingjian/Moving in between/Liver 2

On the top of your foot, place your thumb between the thumb and second toe. Press the point with even pressure moving towards your shin at the place where these two bones meet. Press for one minute increasing the pressure. Repeat on the other foot.

DIJI/ Earth Pivot:/Spleen 8

This powerful point on the Spleen Meridian is primarily used in concert with supporting points to regulate the menstrual cycle and stop painful periods. Often, acupuncturists will use this point to resolve digestive issues. Spleen 8 is massaged for a few minutes a day before cycle day 1 to alleviate cramping and pain. To locate, use the width of your four fingers. Place your index finger in the curve of your shin bone located on your upper inner lower leg below your kneecap. The point is where your pinky falls directly off of the shinbone.

Hegu: Junction Valley/Large Intestine 4

Locate this point on the back of the hand between the thumb and the index finger. Press firmly for several minutes on the small depression you feel between the thumb and index finger joint.  This point is a wonderful point for relieving PMS headaches

Stress and Anxiety Ear Seeds

Our final ‘point’ is actually a whole pack of them that you can work on at home. To calm the mind, body and soul during that pesky period grab a pack of our ear seeds from our shop! Place these 24K gold ear seeds on the acupressure points outlined on the card. Then press down on them a few times throughout the day with even pressure to stimulate those nerves.

Take a deep breath and let your body do the rest.

All of these points are great tools, but they will not solve the underlying root of your painful periods. Together, we can. Come visit us today so we can start to treat the cause, not just the symptoms.
